Scarecrow lyrics

She looks like a lightning strike
Laughs with her smile but never her eyes
Darkness builds under dark gray skies
Been waiting on sunlight for more than a while

Scarecrow scarecrow what's your name
You won't talk to me, are you playing some game
Ride on your perch out here all alone
Hell of a way for you to sell your soul

Scarecrow scarecrow listen in
Where do you come from where have you been
Home for me's been a dinner bell
But the way that your youth's gone it's been more like a cell

Don't you fret the feast is to come
Champion lovers don't all come from love
You could be mine and I could be yours
We could learn together to do something more

I know something that you don't know
I'm in love with a scarecrow
Though the skin on her face is pulled tight on her bones
The look in her eyes tells me I've found my home

Stone cold broke, old clothes, no car
Back of her mind is all covered in scars
Don't matter, honey, wherever we are
We can lay on the roof and count all the stars

Scarecrow scarecrow what's round the bend
Do good things turn bad for you when they never end?
I'll always be me, no, I won't be the man
Who makes your eyes flinch when he raises his hand. Oh

Scarecrow scarecrow be more than a friend
This broken down barn won't have to be the end
We can make our escape, buy us a house
No more hide in the closet and don't make a sound

I know something that you don't know
I'm in love with a scarecrow
Though the skin on her face is pulled tight on her bones
The look in her eyes tells me I've found my home

Stone cold broke, old clothes, no car
Back of her mind is where I keep her heart
Don't matter, honey, wherever we are
We can lay on the roof and count all the stars

What is this place? Oh, what is this place that we're in?
Can we erase the shadow of things that have been?
What is this place? What is this place that we're in?
Oh can we replace the shadow of things that have been?

I know something that you don't know
I'm in love with a scarecrow
Though the skin on her face is pulled tight on her bones
The look in her eyes tells me I've found my home

Stone cold broke, old clothes, no car
Back of her mind is where I keep my heart
Don't matter, honey, wherever we are
We can lay on the roof and count all the stars

writing it

This song makes me think about my dad. Not everyone comes from a loving place, but that doesn't mean you can't give and receive love in your life. I wrote this song to give hope to those who feel hopeless. A year after releasing this song, a girl reached out to me and told me that she had memorized every word to Scarecrow, and that it gave her hope. I have heard the same thing over and over about this song. And it is really special every time. Thanks for the love :)
